I was so excited to have been able to travel last month to Napa Valley for Davina and Joshua’s wedding! Their celebration was held at the Meadowood resort and spa in St. Helena, California. Even though the wedding was my first time meeting the two, we actually go waaaay back. Back in early 2010 Josh inquired about purchasing a dog print after seeing my work at the South End Buttery here in Boston. He was looking to add some “artwork” to his new apartment in San Francisco, and ordered a 20×30 canvas of a wheelchair-bound Weimaraner taking an autumn stroll through the Public Garden. Josh even asked if I could calligraph a little card with the works “title” and my signature. A few months later I received a thank you card in the mail with a picture of the print hanging in his dining room, my lettered card affixed underneath. I was still in the early stages of my new pet photography career, so having someone who treated my work as if it were art was an exhilarating boost to the ego, and an affirmation that I was on the right career path.

Fast forward two years later, when Josh became engaged and asked if I would calligraph the invitations. He and his fiancee had not fixed on a venue yet, but only knew it would be in the San Francisco area. I told him I’d only help him if I could be their wedding photographer as well – or something to that effect! Pretty rude of me! The important thing is I did convince them to hire me for the whole ball of wax – calligraphy for Save the Dates, for the invitations, the addressing of envelopes, the name cards, the Thank You cards, and the photography. Out in Napa Valley. Where there are lots of things I like. Wine, for example. I couldn’t be more honored!

Davina and Josh chose to have a wedding that highlighted all the things they loved: trees, fine cuisine, and great company. (I did sneak in a few photos of grapes too.)

Invitations are letterpress printed by my partner-in-crime, Sarah of Parrott Design Studio. Beautiful florals by Nancy Liu Chin, who gave the bride the option of TWO FULLY FORMED BOUQUETS, both of which I rolled around in like cat on catnip.

Congratulations to this lovely, accomplished couple, and I will always be thankful for your support that you gave me from the very beginning! Salut to a wonderful and happy life together.
