In the world of wedding photography, there are more and more opportunities for sessions outside the day of the wedding. Before the wedding there’s the Engagement shoot, and the Boudoir shoot, if you’re so inclined. For some there are the formal Bridal portraits separate from the wedding day. And after the big day, there’s even the Trash the Dress shoot, if you fancy taking a dip or going hiking in your wedding gown!
But what about a Find the Dress shoot? That time you spend with your mom or your best girlfriends while on the hunt for that perfect dress? Maybe some dresses you like, maybe some you don’t, and there’s no guarantee that you’ll find what you’re looking for on your first try. But in between all those you do, someone is going to laugh and someone is going to cry, especially at the moment when you DO find the dress. So my sudden thought was, Why am I not photographing that whole experience when there is SO MUCH TO PHOTOGRAPH!?
I finally got my chance to photograph my first Find the Dress shoot thanks to newly-engaged Kathryn, who is a Boston-based event designer and stylist at Bash Studio and who happens to be my neighbor. When she became engaged last month I asked her to please (please) (PLEASE) let me tag along when she goes dress hunting. One of her appointments was with Stacey of Flair on Newbury Street. Kathryn’s mother accompanied her. As a photographer looking to capture real moments, the experience was everything I hoped it would be: undirected, relaxed, documentary, lots of laughing, tons of FUN.
I have a couple more for Find the Dress shoots coming up and I am so looking forward to them! All interested brides – get in touch to get this memorable occasion documented!
Thank you to Kathryn and her mom for letting me join in on their adventure, and to Stacey of Flair for being so warm and inviting!
Find the Dress. That is genius! It’s looks like it was a blast to photograph. My fave shot is the 10th photo. The expression on the mother’s face is priceless!
Fun to see and highlights your ability to get such great candid shots! A happy reminder that I don’t have to do the dress thing and went very simple when I “had” to. Not my style, but it’s great to see others enjoying…
