Happy Halloween Eve! This wedding is coming at you from the Halloween capital of the US – Salem, Massachusetts! Home of the witch trials, wax museums, ragged cemeteries, and the most mind-numbingly ponderous book you could possibly assign a junior high school student! That book is the House of the Seven Gables. I only mention the bore factor because despite the fact that I could barely get through it, the book made me really really want to visit Salem and is a big reason I eventually moved to New England. Go figure. I think it had a lot more to do with the author’s embarrassment of his witch trials associations than him being like, a good writer, because he wasn’t, that made me so curious about the place.
So anyway when Kerri & Trevor booked me for their wedding, to take place at the REAL House of the Seven Gables, I was like YES. Give it to me! I had so much fun not only documenting their celebration but getting reacquainted with the House as an adult as well. Salem is still one of my favorite cities. All night while photographing the present I was feeling very nostalgic about the past…thinking about my days in Atlanta and the people who were in my life when I read that book…Is this what it’s like to get old? Things that happen long ago seem to be even closer? After the wedding I picked up the Scarlet Letter. I never read it and was pretty sure it would be as exciting as 7 Gables. But I finished it in a couple of days. I might have to give Gables another try.
As I scrolled through your pictures on this one I would stop and think “love this one best”, then scroll down and stop again with “no, maybe I love this one best”. :) Beautiful wedding. Visitng Salem is now an absolute must on my places to go see.
